[ARCHIVED] Stage 1 Fire Restrictions Begin June 28 Across Utah

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in effect

Due to extreme fire danger and ongoing dry conditions, the State of Utah implemented Stage 1 Fire Restrictions beginning June 28, 2025. These restrictions apply to all unincorporated areas but are strongly encouraged in cities as well, including South Jordan.

Last week alone, 32 fires were reported along the Wasatch Front. Combined with record-high temperatures and low fuel moisture, these conditions put our community at serious risk.

What Stage 1 Fire Restrictions Include:

  • No open fires except in approved public facilities or code-compliant home fire pits with running water nearby.
  • No fireworks, tracer ammunition, or explosive targets.
  • No smoking near dry vegetation.
  • No welding, grinding, or metal cutting in dry areas.
  • No off-road or small engine use without a spark arrestor.

While fireworks are legally permitted in certain areas and on specific dates, we urge residents to avoid home displays and instead attend professional shows.

If you do light fireworks:

  • Ensure you are in a legal area to discharge fireworks.
  • Stay clear of brush, trees, and dry grass.
  • Always have a hose or water bucket nearby.
  • Fully soak spent fireworks with water before discarding.
  • Use bricks or cinder blocks to prevent cake fireworks from tipping over.
  • Children under 16 may not handle or operate aerial fireworks.
  • Fireworks may only be discharged July 2-5 and July 22-25.

Fireworks are prohibited within 200 feet of Bingham Creek, all canals, waterways, City property, City and County parks, anywhere near the Jordan River Parkway, and west of Mountain View Corridor.
