Plein Air Competition
The South Jordan Plein Air event will be held on Saturday, May 30. Registration is mandatory and will close on May 17 (no day of registration)
The plein air (open-air) competition is a fun, fast-paced painting contest. It is open to youth 14-17, amateur artists 18+, and professional artists. The competition is limited to 35 artists on a first-come basis. Paintings must be completed within a strict two-hour period (10:00 am-12:00 pm) . Participating artists may use any two-dimensional medium (oil, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, etc.).) No photography or digital media allowed.
Any artist who fails to comply with the procedures, terms, and conditions may be disqualified.
Registration and Check-in
Fee: $15, and will include a Plein Air T-shirt
All participants MUST sign in and have their canvas stamped at the check-in table the morning of the event between 9:30 and 10 am. If you do not get your canvas stamped before painting, you will be disqualified. The canvas must be blank with no previous drawing! A base tone on the canvas is allowed.
Pre-sketching is only allowed in sketchbooks.
Check-in will be located at the large pavilion at Holt Farmstead
After check-in, you will select a painting location at Holt Farmstead.
Schedule
9:30 - 10:00 AM: ARTIST CHECK-IN (MANDATORY)
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM: ARTISTS PAINT
12:15 PM: Submit art ready to be judged
12:30 PM: Art will be judged
1:00 PM: Awards given
Important Information
You will need the following equipment in order to participate:
- Canvas no smaller than 8X8
- Easel for painting and judging
- Paints or pastels
- Brushes
- Hat, umbrella, sunblock (not required but helpful)
All canvases must be stamped at check-in. The finished artwork is not required to be framed for judging. The Artist may choose to do so if they would like to.
Register for the Plein Air Competition
Public viewing of artists' live painting is free and open to anyone. It will be held on Saturday, May 30, from 10 am- 12 pm. The public is welcome to the awards ceremony on Saturday, May 30, at 1 pm at the Holt Farmstead Pavilion.
